Getting back to Risen 3.there aren't that many mods for the game (Nexus) but there are a few and a couple of mods are worth having. Graphics are better, but the game itself isn't as good, imo. It's a classic and a keeper, imo! G3 is different from G1/2. It's hard to quantify, but there's some kind of charm with G2/NoTR that you don't see much of anymore. It's not a rule or anything, it's just that in those days more was done with the story and dialogue and exploration, etc., because a developer just couldn't do what he wanted graphically or even aurally, etc. G2/NoTR, I think, is my favorite of the Gothics-but play them with the improvements available and they are just as good-and I think in many ways better-than such games today. ) And often then, it wasn't always bugs, either, but the 3d APIs were still pretty primitive compared to much later-when the whole 3d gaming "industry" improved by leaps and bounds. Heh.I remember when I owned G1 when it originally shipped, the image quality/resolutions/ and 3d rendering was so poor that I often couldn't see what I was looking at in some scenes. ) Use the D3d11 mods for G1 and G2, without a doubt. ) Improving the game demonstrably is what all the game patches and IQ mods and texture upgrades are for! So use them!. I'm not one of these who treasures an old game I can hardly see, hear, or play. The visual and audible quality of the games (G1/G2) is increased dramatically with latter patches and mods. If you decide to play these games, then my 100% recommendation is to use the best and most recommended image-quality and texture mods & game patches when doing so. I can play these and still enjoy the heck out of them, so long as I keep a couple of years between replays, that is. Gothic 1/2 today with their 3D11 patching and texture mods are just fabulous, imo, G2 & its expansion, NoTR, are splendid with their air of mystery and exploration-so much fun. The voicing is as good or better in some cases than AAA games today. The audio in R3 and voice tracks are well done, imo-sound like you think they should, and very easy to understand. ) The island scenery is just beautiful at 4k with my 43" monitor-just gorgeous-I just stop sometimes and look around. But here I am many years later and finding that I'm really getting a kick out of Risen 3, with mods added, textures, couple of tweaks and cheats-and I love this game. For some reason, the Risen games just never attracted me-maybe the "pirate" environment turned me off a bit. I guess I'm like most people in that sense. I'm a long time fan of PB and G1/2/3 played when originally released-and loved.
